The Brief
MMX has worked alongside Moss as trusted property advisors for some 10 years, mainly assisting on acquisitions and strategy across the store portfolio.
2020 proved a tumultuous year for Moss, the business was acquired, eventually, by Brigadier Acquisitions Company in a £22.6m purchase in June, however by December 2020 the business entered a CVA which was voted through by 80% of their creditors. At the time this was a worrying period for the brand, whose history dates back to 1851 when it started as a business in Covent Garden buying and selling second-hand clothes.
The result of the CVA put the business on a strong footing - having re-geared the majority of their stores that they wished to retain, reduced their head office costs and moved their distribution centre - meaning 2021 became a year of growth, capitalising on lower high street and town centre rents and buoyed by a resurgence in men’s shopping following the return to work.
The business has over 100 stores, of which MMX Retail have acquired 6 in the last 12 months and have a number of others currently under offer.
