Having first started trading in London as the Penny Bazaar market stall under the railway arches on Brixton Road in 1903, Marks & Spencer has traded at this location for more than 100 years. Now, after Howard Quigley negotiated a lease regear on behalf of M&S with the landlord, the store has been able to undergo this stunning new refresh, as a cornerstone of M&S’s ongoing store renewal programme.
The seven-month makeover has delivered a store that perfectly showcases M&S’s Brixton Road heritage whilst simultaneously injecting a modern and fresh look for the brand, including a nod to its past with a new, fresh market-style foodhall.
Behind every property deal, there’s always a great community story, and not many beat this one! Congratulations to the M&S team - Mark Elliott and Luke Allsop - on the opening of such a fantastic, statement store for the brand.
As the FMX team continue to advise M&S on its store acquisition programme across London, get in touch with David Justice, Howard Quigley, Henry Foreman or Charlie Spilsbury if you know of the perfect next location.
